April 13

Ruth took us out early this morning and we were walking by 6:50 am. We are trying to beat the heat. Today was a day of firsts. We were walking along and came across a mound of coins. Usually we find coins one at a time, scattered through our daily walks. Today we found 48 coins in just a small area, $3.43. First time that has happened to us on this walk.

The walk today was very pleasant today. Four lane divided highway with a wide shoulder. Temperature was just right. We are out of farm and cattle country and into rolling hills and "trees". The folks west of Ardmore are tree deprived as we saw very few of them.

If anyone is interested in learning how to shoe a horse, there is a school for that skill just outside of Ardmore. I asked Carol if she knew how to shoe a horse and she said, "Sure, shoo horse, shoo".

At about the 9 mile mark, a car pulled over just ahead of us and it had a sign, "Channel 12" on the side of it. Keith Moon, reporter for a local cable TV station in Ardmore drove out to interview us. After going to all the trouble setting up is tripod and camera, he discovered he did not bring a video tape. He loaded everything back into his car and said that he would be back. True to his word, he was back in about half an hour. He interviewed John and I as cars and trucks sped by. After the interview, on we walked. We had been interviewed in Muleshoe, Texas, but this is the first time we have been interviewed in Oklahoma and first time we have been interviewed on Phase III.

We walked 13 miles today, another first. We found an Oklahoma license plate, a hemostat, a tennis ball, a steak knife and $3.67 in coins, $3.43 in the mound and .24 cents the conventional way. Stayed tuned ....
