April 15

Ruth took us out to the starting place today, halfway between Madill and Kingston. After a bit, we entered the town of Kingston and stopped at theconvenience store to use the facilities. A man in the store saw us come in the said, "Aren't you the two fellers that is going to walk to Georgia?", we said yes and he said, "Well, isn't that something !".

It is something for two "senior citizens" that are "closing in on 70 years young" Those are the words that the TV station reporter used in the article he wrote and the video he shot about our walk. Neither John nor I consider ourselves "senior citizens" and I am closing in on 67 not 70, lets not rush things. Keep moving and keep active is something that I have always believed in physically and mentally.

After 8 miles, Carol was waiting for us in the car. We were about to drive over the Lake Texoma bridge. Yesterday we had decided it was best to drive over the bridge rather than walk. There is room to walk although not much, a 1 foot wide, elevated concrete walkway. But, they are working on the bridge and have one lane closed. We didn't think they would let us walk across it and we decided it was too dangerous. So, now there are two places we didn't walk. The Superior Tunnel near Superior, Arizona and the bridge over Lake Texoma. Both places just too risky to walk.

But we did manage to walk 14 miles today. A new worlds record for Phase III. We are east of Lake Texoma and just a few miles from Durant, Oklahoma. We found an Oklahoma license plate and 58 cents. Stay tuned ...
